There are many ways in which a fourteen-year-old girl may experience stress and depression.

The two primary causes are:

- ( 1 ) School Life

As the majority of fourteen-year-old girls should be attending school, there can be many issues which can arise due to it and resultantly cause stress and depression.

This can include but is not limited to the following:

• School work / assignments / tests
• Grades
• Lack of motivation
• Peer pressure
• Friendship issues
• Conflict with peers
• Teachers
• Bullying / Harassment
• Competition / Being compared to others
• Trying to fit in

- ( 2 ) Personal / Home Life

Everyone has a personal / home life including fourteen-year-old girls. Due to various negative circumstances, it can cause stress and depression.

This can include but is not limited to the following:

• Family conflict
• Strict parents
• Sibling rivalry / always being compared to your sibling
• Trying to live upto your parents expectations but feeling like you are a disappointment
• Passing away of a family member / relative
• Parents are divorced / have a single parent
• Financially unstable / poor household
• Poor living conditions
• Physically / Verbally / Sexually / Mentally / Emotionally abused or threatened by parents or relatives

- ( 3 ) Other

There can also be other reasons behind why a fourteen-year-old girl would feel stressed or depressed.

This can include but is not limited to the following:

• Low self-esteem / self-confidence
• Self-dehumanisation
• Feeling worthless; like you are a failure / disappointment
• Hating yourself
• Puberty / Adolescence
• Always trying to keep up with society's expectations even though it is exhausting
• Not being happy or satisfied with your appearance, personality, level of intelligence and / or athletic ability
• Not having a plan or dream career path for your future
• Feeling like you aren't good at anything
• Comparing yourself to others
• Lack of motivation to live
• Just feeling dejected in general
• A wave of sadness overcomes you and you don't know why, but that's okay because there's nothing wrong with being sad; you can't always be happy

NOTE: Most of these are also applicable to individuals of other genders and ages.
