At a local fitness center, members pay an $8 membership fee and $2 for each aerobics class. Nonmembers pay $4 for each aerobics class. For what number of aerobics classes will the cost for members and nonmembers be the same?

x equals the number of aerobics classes.

We create an equation to solve for x.
Member Cost = Nonmember Cost

8 + 2x = 0 + 4x

Solve for x:

8 + 2x = 4x (subtract 2 from both sides)

8 = 4x - 2x (combine like terms)

8 = 2x

4 = x

For 4 aerobics classes, the cost of members and nonmembers will be the same.
