Jane and Jill collect yo-yo’s. The ratio of the number of Jane’s yo-yo’s to the number of Jill’s yo-yo’s is 5:4. If Jane will give 15 of her yo-yo’s to her little brother, Jane and Jill will have the same number of yo-yo’s in their collections. How many yo-yo’s do both girls have together?

Let 5x be the number of Jane's yo-yos

Let 4x be the number of Jill's yo-yos

If Jane gives 15 away, they'll have the same number:

5x - 15 = 4x

x = 15

Jane has 5x --> 5 x 15 = 75

Jill has 4x --> 4 x 15 = 60

75 + 60 = 135

ANSWER:
Together they will have 135 yo-yos.
