Can someone solve, explain and show their work? I don't understand why my answers-example-1

Multiply 14 (the price of gas in 2000) by 19.9% (the price as a percentage of the 2000 price). 14 times 0.199 is 2.786. Therefore, it would cost $2.79 to fill the same gas tank in 1960.

Not 100% sure if this answer is correct, but this is what I got.
