9+(-7)=2

What you would do is add 7 to each side and then that is how you get you answer: 9

You are solving for the variable, x.. Note that one positive and one negative results in a negative: x + (-7) = x - 7.

Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other. Isolate the variable.

Add 7 to both sides

x - 7 (+7) = 2 (+7)

x = 2 + 7

Simplify.

x = 9

9 is your answer for x
