Since we know that both sides are equation to each other, set them equal to each other like this:

2x = 3x - 5

Add 5 to both sides because whatever you do on one side you would always have to do it on the other,

2x + 5 = 3x

Subtract 2x

5 = x

The value of x is 5

Checking your work, just plug five into the equations for the x values

2(5) = 3(5) - 5

10 = 10

This means that 5 = x
