Answer:

Explanation:

10 students participated in a Mathematics quiz. If the number of girls is 4 more than the number of boys, find the number of boys and girls who took part in the quiz

Solution: Number of girls = x

Number of boys = y

x + y = 10 -------------------(I)

Number of girls is 4 more than the number of boys

x - y = 4 ----------------------(I)

x = 4 + y

Substitute x = 4 +y in equation (I)

4+ y + y = 10

4 + 2y = 10

2y = 10-4

2y= 6

y = 6/2

y = 3

Plug in y = 3 in eqution (I)

x + 3 = 10

x = 10 - 3

x = 7

Number of girls = 7

Number of boys = 3
