When you are graphing a linear equation you need to put the equation in its standard form of y = mx + b, by subtracting x you would get its standard form

The new equation: y = -x - 2

Now we know that the y-intercept is -2. The first point of your equation should be (0, -2)

Going from there go down 1 of the y axis and 1 left of the x axis.

That is because your slope would be -1/1 which means rise over run. You would rise -1, and run 1.

Make a table using x, y

So if x = 1, you substitute it into the equation and y = -3, If x =0, y = -2. You keep picking numbers and substituting them in until you have 3 or 4 ordered pairs. You then use (1, -3), (0, -2), etc. and plot them on a graph.
