The following advantages were held by the North or the South:
1) The North had superior military leadership (stronger army and navy).
2) The North established governmental agencies (it was easy for them to organize the military).
3) The South had troops physically prepared for fighting.
4) The North had more adequate transportation, because they had much more roads and infrastructure to move their troops and supplies easily from one place to other.
5) The North had diversified agriculture. They even had a more diversified economy based on free labor. The South, on the contrary, had an economy based on slave work.
6) The South had a defensive stand since they were protecting their land. It was a defensive battle for them.
7) The South had more natural resources. For example, they were the main cotton producers at that time.
8) The North had much more factories than the South, so they were able to produce more munitions and supplies (such as guns, bullets, knifes, etc).
9) The South was familiar with terrain and climate since they were fighting in their home land.
10) The North had a larger source of manpower, because they had almost over twice the South's population.
