Read Lines 1-5 from Canto I:

Halfway through the journey we are living
I found myself deep in a darkened forest,
For I had lost all trace of the straight path.

Ah how hard it is to tell what it was like,
How wild the forest was, how dense and rugged!

What effect does the setting have on Dante’s feelings?

A) It makes him feel somber.
B) It makes him feel frustrated.
C) It makes him feel excited.
D) It makes him feel anxious.

Answer:

D) It makes him feel anxious.

Step-by-step explanation:

Dante is lost, in a Dark, wild forest that is very dense.

"Ah how hard it is to tell what it was like,

How wild the forest was, how dense and rugged!"

He finds it hard to explain, most likely because the sensation goes much beyond the visuals of the forest. He didn't seem to be somber or frustrated. The journey continued. But he wasn't excited either, since the sensation of having no north seems to be quite bad, considering his description.
