1: Triple the quantity of a number “n” plus 4 equals 27. what would the expression look like?

[ Triple the quantity of a number “n” ] 3n

[ plus 4 ] + 4

[ equals 27 ] = 27

[ all together ] 3n + 4 = 27

Solving:

[ given ] 3n + 4 = 27

[ subtract 4 from both sides ] 3n = 23

[ divide both sides by 3 ] n = 7
(2)/(3)

2:Seventeen equals seven less than three times a number “n” what would the expression look like?

[ Seventeen equals ] 17 =

[ seven less than ] - 7

[ three times a number “n” ] 3n

[ all together ] 17 = 3n - 7

Solving:

[ given ] 17 = 3n - 7

[ add 7 to both sides ] 24 = 3n

[ divide both sides by 3 ] 8 = n
