Solve an equation for a variable mean to leave that variable on one side of that equation by itself.

5x + 3y = 15

5x + 3y - 5x = 15 - 5x

3y = - 5x + 15


(3y)/(3) =
(-5x)/(3) +
(15)/(3)

y =
-(5)/(3) x + 5
