hello

John can bake 40 cookies in 1 hour and a school ordered 200 cookies, you need to find how many hours it is going to take to make those 200 cookies.

1 hour is 60 minutes

so 40 cookies in 60 minutes (we will convert it to hours later )

200 cookies in ???? minutes

step 1 : use fractions ->
(40 COOKIES )/ (60 MINUTES ) = (200 COOKIES)/(x MINUTES ) (x being an unknown variable)

step 2: cross multiply until x is left alone on one side
(((200 cookies ) * (60 minutes))/(40 cookies)) = x MINUTES

step 3: solve for unknown and cross out like terms : 200*60=1200, 1200/40=300

step 4 convert minutes to hours

since 60 minutes are 1 hour

300 minutes are ? hours

step 4 cross multiply again (300*1)/60 = 5 hours

Answer:

It will take 5 hours to fill the order.

Explanation:

Set up an equation, 40x=200, x being how many hours it will take.

Divide 40 by 200 to get x alone, x=200/40

x=5 hours.
