Express the following as a single discount rate.

30. What is the selling price of an article that lists at $1,500 subject to discounts of 40%, 25%, and 10%? (You may use the method described in “Check Your Selling Price.”)

31. What is the discount on $640 if the discount rates are 25%, 10%, and 5%?

Answer: For the first question: 40%=600 25%=375 10%=150. For the second 25%=160 10%=64 5%=32

Step-by-step explanation: In order to find the percent of a number we have to multiply that number by the decimal form of the percent.

For example if we were looking for 30% of 100 we would convert our percent into a decimal form by moving the decimal point 2 spaces forward.

30.00%=0.30

Then all we simply do is multiply this decimal number times the other number.

But for this case we are finding other percentages so let's get straight to the point here.

$1,500*0.40=600

$1,500*0.25=375

$1,500*0.10=150

For the other question we repeat the same process.

$640*0.10=64

I going to stop here for a moment since we have a special case 5% To find the decimal form we have to do the same thing for all the other which is move the point 2 spaces forward. However we are going to add a 0 after we move the decimal point. (this applies for all one digit percents)

5%=0.05

$640*0.05=32

$640*0.25=160

We have finally finished the long process of finding the percents.

Have a nice day!

Hope this helps!

Answer:

Explanation:

Part A. What is the selling price of an article that lists at $1,500 subject to discounts of 40%, 25% and 10%.

As we know that 40% is equivalent to
(40)/(100)

The formula of percentage = Original price × discount in percentage/100

So
(40)/(100) × 1,500 =

= 0.40 × 1,500 = $600

So the selling price after 40% discount will be 1,500 - 600 = $900

25% of $1,500 =
(25)/(100) × 1,500

= 0.25 × 1,500 = $375

So the selling price after 25% discount will be = 1,500 - 375 = $1,125

10% discount of $1,500

=
(10)/(100) × 1,500

= 0.10 × 1,500 = $150

The selling price after 10% discount is 1500 - 150 = $1,350

Part B. What is the discount on $640 if the discount rates are 25%, 10% and 5%.

25% of 640

(25)/(100) × 640

= 0.25 × 640 = $160

Discount of 25% on $640 is $160.

Discount of 10% on 640

(10)/(100) × 640

= 0.10 × 640 = $64

Discount of 10% on $640 is $64.

5% discount on $640

(5)/(100) × 640

= 0.05 × 640 = $32

Discount of 5% on $640 is $32.
