Answer: slope is 1; y intercept is -5

=========================================================

The equation y = x-5 is the exact same as y = 1x-5. The 1 in front of the x does not change it because 1*x = x. It's the idea of 1 times any number is itself (eg: 1 times 7 = 7)

We can rewrite y = 1x - 5 into y = 1x + (-5). Adding a negative is the same as subtracting.

The equation y = 1x + (-5) is in the form y = mx+b where m = 1 and b = -5

So the slope is m = 1 and the y intercept is b = -5. The graph crosses the y axis at the point (0,-5)
