The faucet in my kitchen has a leak and is constantly dripping. At 7:00 a.m., I placed a

measuring cup under the drip. When I got home at 3:00 p.m. the cup was full. If this drip rate
continues, how many gallons of water are wasted in a 7-day period of time?

Answer:

1.3125 gallons would have been wasted in 7 days

Explanation:

mathematically, there are 0.0625 gallons in a measuring cup

So within the time frame, 0.0625 of liquid was lost

The time frame is 8 hours difference

The number of hours in 7 days will be;

7 * 24 = 168 hours

0.0625 gal in 8 hours

x gal in 168 hours

x * 8 = 168 * 0.0625

8x = 10.5

x = 10.5/8

x = 1.3125 gallons
