By the time you have reached Scene 3 of the play, you have begun to establish a good idea of the characteristics of the main characters. In your journal, write a short character summary of the characters living in the Secret Annex, writing about three to four sentences for each character. Your observations can include elements of their personality or their physical description, and should be supported by details from the play.

Answer:

ANNE FRANK- Anne Frank had a very big imagination and was not like most girls back then. She was a lively girl and always very curious. She thought herself to be superficial.

PETER VAN DAAN-Peter was a simple boy and he does not like girls that much. Still, Peter was a lovable boy but was characterized as lazy and weak. He was outgoing but careful about things.

MR. VAN DAAN- Mr Van Daan was described as intelligent, opinionated, pragmatic, and somewhat egotistical. He was a temperamental guy and does not like to be missed. Mr. Van Daan speaks his mind and was not afraid to cause friction.

MRS. VAN DAAN- Mrs. Van Daan was a friendly and teasing woman. Still, she was a very constant complainer, moody, panicky, and neurotic. She was really pushy, bossy, nosey, selfish, and whiny.

MR. FRANK-Mr. Frank was a polite and practical father. He was very patient. He was also very calm.

MRS. FRANK- Mrs. Frank was a very polite person. She was always good to everyone unless you are mean to her. She was good-natured, kind-hearted, loving, warm, gentle, and caring.

MIEP GIES- Miep Gies was a kindhearted person. She was considerate, helpful, thoughtful, obliging, and unselfish. She was an awesome woman.

MARGOT FRANK- Margot Frank (Anne's sister) was a quiet, obedient, and demure. She was frail, friendly, and very intelligent girl. She was overwhelmed by the trials of hiding and she was very close to her mother and father.

Hope this helps!

You might want to write more and/or change it a little because my teacher only gave me half the points on this.

There were eight people living in the house; they were completely dependent on six helpers which provided food and clothing, magazines and newspapers.

Edith Frank

She is an excellent mother, she always puts her children above all else. She has a difficult relationship with Anne, but feels comfort in knowing that Anne has a strong one with Otto.

Otto Frank

He feels responsible for the atmosphere in the Secret Annex and mediated every single argument. He is the peacemaker, the calm one.

Margot Frank

She is very quiet and withdrawn. She is a very lonely girl and share very little about her feelings.

Anne Frank

There are two personalities inside of her; one is superficial and funny, and the other one is serious. When she is surrounded by people, she is definitely the first one. They both love writing.

Hermann Van Pels

He is a joker, but he also gets very grumpy. He knows a lot about politics and he is always optimistic.

Auguste Van Pels

She is the housewife in the Secret Annex, she cooks for everyone and always tries her best. She has many rows with her husband and screams a lot, but short after it comes the reconciliation period.

Peter Van Pels

He is the only one that has his own room. He spends a lot of time lazing around on his bed or doing carpentry. He always seems disinterested.

Fritz Pfeffer

He is a dentist and he also studied medicine. He has his instrument in the house and helps everyone when needed.
