Manny has 48 feet of wood. He wants to use all of it to create a border around a garden. The equation can be used to find the length and width of the garden, where l is the length and w is the width of the garden. If Manny makes the garden 15 feet long, how wide should the garden be?

Answer:

Explanation:

The garden would be in form of a rectangle and as such will have 2 equal lengths and 2 equal width.

The equation to be used to find the length l and width w of the garden is same as the perimeter of a rectangle given as

= 2(l + b).

If the garden is 15 feet long, the perimeter is equal to the total length of wood Manny has which is 48 feet. Hence

48 = 2(15 + w)

24 = 15 +w

w = 24 - 15

w = 9.

The garden is 9 feet wide.
