“The Giver” emphasizes the importance of memory to human beings and life in general. The story shows a community that decides to “erase” their bad memories so that they couldn’t feel pain anymore. The character Jonas then realized that although there is no pain without memory, there is also no happiness and no joy. His personal experiences are directly related to the main theme of the story because it’s all about memories and how important those memories are.
