The scientific notation:

a\cdot 10^k where
1\leq a < 10 and
k\in\mathbb{Z}

(3.1\cdot10^5)(2.2\cdot10^7)=(3.1)(2.2)(10^5\cdot10^7)\\\\=6.82\cdot10^(5+7)=6.82\cdot10^(12)
