Multiply 3x.89 to get how much he spent on the oranges which would be $2.67 then subtract 7.15 from 2.67 7.15-2.67= which is 4.48, meaning he bought 4 apples for $4.48 divide this by 4 to solve for how much 1 apple costs which is $1.12

Answer:

Each apple cost $1.12

Explanation:

The total amount spent is the sum of the amounts spent on oranges added to the amount spent on apples. Given that Ben bought 3 oranges for 89 cents each, amount spent on oranges

= 3 * $0.89

= $2.67

If Ben bought 4 apples for x dollars each, amount spent on apples

= 4x

Total amount spent is $7.15

2.67 + 4x = 7.15

4x = 7.15 - 2.67

4x = 4.48

x = $1.12
