Is 3(x+1) - (1 + x and 2x + 3 equivalent?

No. 3(x+1) - (1+x) is equal to 2x+2

3(x+1)-(1+x)

3x+3-1-x=2x+2

2x+2 and 2x+3 are not equivalent.
