Jeff has $25 he spends $10.81 include tax to buy a new DVD.He need to set aside $10 to pay for lunch next week. If peanuts cost $0.38 per package, including tax, what is the maximum number of packages that Jeff can buy?

He can buy 11 peanuts, taking in consideration the .38 cents is WITH tax already included. There is no way to find out the tax rate without the original and the change in the problem other wise.

Hey!

First step would be subtract all the money known that he spends from the $25 dollars...

25 - 10 = 15

15 - 10.81 = 4.19

Now with the remaining money you will simply have to use set up an equation..

0.38x = 4.19

Solve for x to get your answer...

4.19/0.38 = 11.03

So Jeff can buy up to 11 packages of peanuts.

Answer: 11 packages
