Answer:

Ragtime is a popular musical genre of African American origin that emerged in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and influenced the development of jazz.

It is a mixture of two musical styles: the march and African rhythms.

Rag music was mainly linked to the piano. Being slaves, black people they had a hard time getting these instruments, but after their freedom, they bought small organs. The black musicians who performed in song shows and other types of entertainment brought to the piano carchateristic sounds of the banjo. Its roots date back to the songs and dances of blacks enslaved in plantations during the 19th century.

One of the places where this style had great developments was the city of Sedalia in the State of Missouri since one of its greatest interpreters (Scott Joplin) lived there. It was the first black music to have the popularity that allowed it to spread commercially.
