Democracy is a type of government which is run by it's citizens and which main characteristics are free elections, citizen participation and majority rule with individual rights.
There are two types of democracies: Representative and Direct. The United States has a Representative Democracy, which means that the citizens elect their president, senators and members of the congress that will run the country.
