The west Appalachians was a vast territory that could have been administered in different forms than the British colonists did, in that the French had a much better relationship with the Native Indians than the English had.

French explorers basically wanted to get rich by the fur trade. They did not really consider permanent settlements and took the lands that belonged to the American Indian tribes, as was the case of the English.
