y = 1

calculate the slope m using the gradient formula

m = (y₂ - y₁ ) / (x₂ - x₁ )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (1, 2 ) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (2, y )

m =
(y-2)/(2-1) = y - 2

now m = -1, hence

y - 2 = -1 ( add 2 to both sides )

y = 1
