4 – 3(x – y) = –8x + 2

Apply distributive property to left side.

4 - 3x + 3y = -8x + 2

Add 8x to both sides.

4 + 5x + 3y = 2

Subtract 4 from both sides.

5x + 3y = -2

The correct answer is C.
