Answer:

L=16.8

w = 8.8

Explanation:

L = x +8

w = x

x(x+8) = 148

x^2 + 8x = 148

x^2 + 8x - 148 =0

a = 1

b = 8

c = - 148

x =
(-8 +/- √(8^2 + 4*1*(-148)) )/(2)

(x - 8.8)(x + 16.8) = 0

(x + 16.8) is an extraneous root.

x = 8.8 which is the width

L = 16.8
