Do you think the townspeople in "a rose for emily" bear any responsibility for what becomes of emily?

I think that townspeople feel responsible for what becomes of Emily. The reason is that though they disapprove most of Emily’s actions, such as refusing to pay her taxes and purchasing poison, nobody stops her. As Emilily is an inaccesible woman it is really difficult for the townspeople to take care of her and they leave her alone, on her own way, without any help.
