Why is the party in power more cohesive that the opposition party?

In order to remain in power, they must remain cohesive--if they fragment, and a bill fails to pass, this can trigger a vote of confidence and thus a dissolution of the parliament. The opposition party, on the other hand, has no such restrictions.

I'm not 100% sure this will help but...I'm trying. :)
