The most likely effect is monetary, which affects some groups along the chain.

The first group affected are the farmers. If they are not able to harvest, they are not getting their income.

The second group affected are factories that process the potato turning into chips. If the suppliers cannot garantee the raw material, this will hit the whole factory leading to less production, sales decrease and dismissing employees.

The third group woulb be the customers that would have to buy potatoes at a much higher price, besides other aspects regarding the product and the region itself. For example, how can we talk about Thanksgiving without having a potato based dish?
