Answer-

It took 12 hours to lose the water.

Solution-

The total amount of water lost from Gerald’s bucket is
(8)/(5) inch

The amount of water he estimated to be lost in a single hour is
(2)/(15) inch

Dividing the total water lost by water lost per hour, we can get the the total number of hours it took to lose the water.

\text{Number of hours}=((8)/(5))/((2)/(15))=(8)/(5)* (15)/(2)=4* 3=12

Therefore, it took 12 hours to lose the water.
