DNA code of a gene is first converted into mRNA ( messenger RNA) through a process called transcription ( occurs in nucleus of eukaryotes and cytoplasm of prokaryotes). mRNA is then converted into protein through a process called translation ( occurs in the cytoplasm of cell).

During the process of translation, tRNA ( transfer RNA) delivers specific amino acid to the ribosome that matches with the codons ( sequence of three nucleotides in mRNA).

As a result, a long chain of amino acid is assembled, resulting in protein synthesis.
