x=24
Solving:
-1/3x + 1 = -7
- 1 -1
-1/3x = -8
3(-1/3x) = 3(-8)
-1x = -24
x = 24

Multiply both sides by -3 to get rid of the negative and the fraction.
X - 3 = 21
Move the constants over to isolate the variable
X = 24
