Note the equal sign. What you do to one side, you do to the other:

3) x - 6 = 3x

Subtract x from both sides

x (-x) - 6 = 3x (-x)

-6 = 3x - x

-6 = 2x

Isolate the x. Divide 2 from both sides

(-6)/2 = (2x)/2

x = -6/2

x = -3

(see graph 1)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5) x - 4 = -2x + 2

Add 4 and 2x to both sides

x (+2x) - 4 (+4) = -2x (+2x) + 2 (+4)

x + 2x = 2 + 4

Simplify. Combine like terms

3x = 6

Isolate the x. Divide 3 from both sides

(3x)/3 = (6)/3

x = 6/3

x = 2

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Graph each equation. See attached pictures.

3) first, then 5) (I believe i put them in the right order)
