Hello there!

The word difference tells you it will be subtraction. The -5 and a number tell you that -5 and a variable will be in the equation. Since it is equal to 12, it will look like this:
-5-n=12
OR
n-(-5)=12
n+5=12

I hope this helps!
Best wishes.
