so the length would be 2w-5= L, and 2w+2L=146. So if you substitute 2w-5 for L, you get 2w+2(2w-5)=146, or when you distribute 2w+4w-10=146. Simplify, and you get 6w-10=146, 6w=156, w=26. Now, plug that into the first equation for 2(26)-5=L, 52-5=L, 47=L. If you plug these numbers into 2w+2L, you'll find it equals 146.
L=47
W=26
and, when you multiply them, A=1,266
