After reading the paragraph, select the sentence that identifies the theme.

God's people were oppressed by the Midianites. Because the times were so hard, the people of Israel called to the Lord for help. God chose an unknown farmer rather than a mighty leader to overcome the Midianites. When Gideon was chosen, he placed his trust in God and believed God would use him to help the Israelites. At first he gathered an army of over 30,000, but God told him to use only three hundred men. Gideon won the battle without even fighting. At night, Gideon and his 300 men lit torches, blew trumpets, and shouted "For the Lord and for Gideon." Then they stood by and watched as the enemy panicked, and the Lord caused the enemy troops to begin fighting and killing each other.

God can do great things through ordinary people who trust Him.

Gideon became a mighty leader because he won the battle over the Midianites.

When hard times come, take charge of your own destiny.

The paragraph basically says that Gideon, just an unknown farmer, and the people of Israel managed to defeat the enemy, all because the people of Israel trusted what he said and they trusted him.

Therefore, God can do great things through ordinary people who trust Him is the answer.
