Explanation:

y=7x-8

y=5x-2

7x-8=5x-2

move 8 to the other side and it becomes positive, move 5x to the other side and it becomes negative.

7x+5x=8-2

two negatives make a positive so 5x is positive.

12x=6

12/12 =6/12

x=0.5

plug x into one of the equations

7(0.5)-8

3.5-8 = -4.5

x=0.5 y=-4.5
