A company that sells widgets has to pay $\$500$ in maintenance fees each day and then it pays each worker $\$15$ per hour. Each worker makes 5 widgets per hour, which are sold at $\$3.10$ each. What is the least number of workers the company has to hire in order to make a profit in an 8-hour workday?

Let's use h to represent h for hours:

500 + 15r > 5*3.10h

15r + 500 > 15.5h

0.5h > 500

h > 1000

So, one person needs at least 1000 hours to make profit, so now we need to divide by 8:

1000/8 = 125

The least amount of people required is 125 people.

I agree with the solution above, but they forgot one thing - they want a profit, and with 125 workers they will just end up with the same amount of money, so we must add 1 to 125 to get

1+125= 126 workers
