(15 - 3) ÷ 4 = 3

Explanation:

What number when divided into something will give 3. You can go through the givens.

If it is 5 then you have to have 15 inside the brackets. That is not possible with this question because you must be subtracting. So the 3rd blank can't be 5

Could the third blank be 3? Then you would need 9 inside the brackets. There is no way to get a difference of 9 with those 5 numbers. So the third blank is not 3

How about 4? That would mean that number inside the brackets would be 12. Is that possible. Good choice.

15 - 3 = 12 Now we are getting some where.

(15 - 3) ÷ 4 is your answer

= (15 - 3) ÷ 4 Subtract inside the brackets

= 12 ÷ 4

= 3 which checks.
