Probably if the wax is in a molten state a hot non-polar solvent would be best. Heat vegetable oil would be the best way to dissolve the molten wax.

Second question.

I actually think the ice forms on the top because it is less dense than the water. Good thing too. Fish would be frozen solid in winter if ice sank rather than floated as most other substances behave.

When we take clotting to the dry cleaner it is important to identify any strain that are on the clothing because according to the like dissolve like fact to remove strain which solvent is required.

Solubility of any substance depends on the following fact:

“like dissolves like”

Means polar solvent dissolve polar substances and non-polar dissolves non-polar substances. is polar compound which dissolve in polar solvent like water not in benzene, , because is non-polar solvent.

The solubility of solute in solvent depends on the following factors:

Solute Solvent

Polar Non-polar

Ionic Soluble Insoluble

Polar Soluble Insoluble

Non-Polar Insoluble Soluble

Thus if solute is ionic or polar means it dissolves in polar solvents like water, acetone etc and if solute is non- polar means it does not dissolve in polar solvents like water, acetone

Generally the solubility of compound will increases with temperature because as the temperature of solvent increases kinetic energy also increases. Thus the molecules of solvent are fast moving at higher temperature.

hence the correct answer is C.

a hot non-polar solvent
