Question 1 options:

Potassium forms ions with a charge of +1 (Ka+). Iodine forms ions with a charge of -1. Selenium forms ions with a charge of -2 (Se2-).
Imagine that Potassium ions and Selenide ions combine to form Potassium Selenide. What numbers would be in the place of X and Y in:
KXSeY

(Use the number 1 even if it isn't strictly necessary)
X=_______________________ Y=______________________________

Answer:

X = 2

Y = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

As we know the potassium selenide will be a balanced ionic compound having net charge of zero.

So K has +1 charge and Se has -.

So if we take one ion of Se -2 the we have to take 2 ions of K which have +1 charge.

K2 = +2, 1Se = -2

Then net charge will zero. Hence the formula of potassium selenide is K2Se.
