Given the system of linear equations.

5x = 5y - 5
y = x + 1

Part A: Using the method of your choice (graphing, substitution or addition), find the solution to the system of linear equations. Include all of your work in your final answer.

Part B: In two or more complete sentences, explain why you chose the specific method you used to find the solution to the system.

Answer:

A) See below. The solution is y=x+1.

B) I chose the method of graphing because it is quick and easy. When there are integer solutions to the equations, they are generally easy to read from the graph. In this case, the system is dependent, so both equations graph as the same line.

Explanation:

A) If you divide the first equation by 5, you get ...

... x = y - 1

If you add 1 to this equation, you get ...

... y = x + 1 . . . . . the same as the second equation.

Both of these equations graph as the same line. The solution set is all points on the line y=x+1.

B) Your sentences are above. (I keep the Desmos graphing calculator open in my browser all the time, so graphing is very fast.)

Given the system of linear equations. 5x = 5y - 5 y = x + 1 Part A: Using the method-example-1
