x^2+5x-24\\\\\begin{array}{cc} a+b=5\\ab=-24\end{array}\to a=8\ and\ b=-3\\\\x^2+5x-24=x^2+8x-3x-24=x(x+8)-3(x+8)\\\\\boxed{x^2+5x-24=(x+8)(x-3)}
