My conclusion is that the president of the US should be elected by national popular vote rather than the electoral vote, since most voters are irrelevant in most states in presidential elections, and this is because of the winner-takes-all rule where if the candidate receives a majority of the popular vote or a plurality of the popular vote (that is less tha 50% but more than any other candidate), takes all of the stateĀ“s electoral vote and so presidential candidates have no rights to solicit votes in states where the statewide outcome is a foregone conclusion.
For example half of the general election campaign events in the last years have been concentrated in only eleven or twelve states, so these states are the one who decide to elect the next president.
