The Declaration of independence adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, concluding all political connections between the 13 original colonies and. Originally drafted by Thomas Jefferson on which he wrote:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.".
Where "all men" originally encompassed only white land owning men, however as time progressed included any citizen regardless of their sex and race.
