William Barret Travis (1809–1836), was a Texas commander at the battle of the Alamo.

At a young age, Barret became the commander of the Alamo defenders because original commander James Bowie was too sick to be part of the war. Barret had twenty-six-years and that situation made him mature and think of the responsibility he had .

As a central part of the Alamo defenders, Travis was a man of character and had no problems in accepting his new role.

He was men of principles, committed and was a respected member of the San Antoini community. He set up his own law practice, joined the fraternal order of Masons
