1. Robert took $50 with him to spend on pizza and games for himself and his friends at Chucky Cheese. The price for each slice of pizza was $5. The price of each game was half the price of a slice of pizza. (a) Sketch the graph that represents the situation and label the intercepts. Use one axis to represent the number of slices of pizza and the other axis to represent the number of games. (b) What do the intercepts and the solutions of your graphed function mean in context of the problem?

Let x be the number of slices of pizza and y be the number of games.

1. If the price for each slice of pizza is $5, then x slices cost $5x.

2. If the price of each game is half the price of a slice of pizza, then each game costs $2.50 and y games cost $2.50y.

3. Robert has $50 with him to spend on pizza and games for himself and his friends at Chucky Cheese. This means that

5x+2.5y=50.

a) The graph is represented in the attached diagram. Here 1st axis x represents the number of slices of pizza and y represents the number of games.

b) When x=0, 2.5y=50, y=20 - if they spend all money on games, they can play 20 games.

When y=0, 5x=50, x=10 - if they spend all money on pizza, they can buy 10 slices of pizza.

1. Robert took $50 with him to spend on pizza and games for himself and his friends-example-1
